I am obsessed with gaming dice. On my desk, I have a set of polyhedral dice and a 7-in-1 dice cube. They sit next to the keyboard and are in easy reach, always.

First There was the Cube

I first purchased the cube after watching some influencers game play and then playing myself, of an extreme life simulation challenge in which the life expectancy was based on medieval peasant life expectations. The dice roll helped randomize the chances of the simulated being’s survival and life expectancy.

The cube is a stand in  for the polyhedral gaming dice. The funny ones with many numbers and angles. The ones most notably known for use in dungeons and dragons table top games.

The cube itself, is larger and heavier than a standard die. It weighs about a pound and is more akin to a metallic paperweight, than it is to a die.  Each of the six sides has a numbered disc that represents seven different dice rolls. Instead of rolling the cube, howeve, you spin the disc with the correct amount of numbers inscribed.

While I love to use the cube for my game play, I find that it also doubles as a fidget spinner. I find myself spinning the discs when I am hard at work. It eases tension of a busy night in the office.

Then There Were Dice – Lots off Them

I soon purchased a bag of polyhedral dice. It contained several pounds of assorted standard sized dice.  Only 7 of the dice were considered part of a single set. The rest (20-50 of them) were unique.  The set consists of matching 4, 6 (the most well known die), 8, 10 & 20 sided dice as well as a second 10-sided die with the digits counting by 10s up to 100 (commonly referred to as either a 00 or 100 die).

I have collected some other sets during the last year.  Yes, I only started aquri ingredients dice last year. Now I have a couple of favorites.

I now have, a full metal set that all together weigh as much as the cube. 

I have a large set that dwarf standard sized dice. This set is easiest to pick up on cold nights. I have some that are multi-toned, swirling colors from light to dark on each of the die.

I like the colors, the shapes, sizes, the weights and the differences of the different dice sets.  The best part, though, is picking up a handful.
